Nintendo is one of the biggest corporations in the gaming industry. Throughout its history, the producers of both games and consoles have revolutionised the industry many times, bringing about titles that would forever change the gaming world. If you’ve ever played a video game, there are great chances you’ve tried at least one Mario title. The famous Italian plumber going over levels upon levels of challenges in order to reach the final castle, destroy the dragon and save Princess Peach has to be among the greatest gaming stories ever told.

Nintendo has come a long way since the first few tries into the world of gaming, and not all of their releases were international hits. Yet even with tons of flaws and mediocre releases in both video games and consoles, the Japanese producer has managed to pass the test of time and deliver even now in the 2020s. If you’re into gaming and are looking for a bunch of new Nintendo releases for one of your consoles, this is the right spot for you.

A Short Nintendo History

Before diving into the matter at hand, let’s take a closer look at the history of Nintendo. This company started its activity in the year 1889 but not like a video games producer. Nintendo was founded as a playing card company by Fusajiro Yamauchi on 23 September 1889 in Kyoto, Japan. The business produced and marketed hanafuda cards, handmade playing cards that soon became popular. In order to satisfy the high demand, Yamauchi hired assistants to mass-produce the cards. The company established itself as an unlimited partnership in 1933, titled Yamauchi Nintendo & Co. Ltd.

The company once again changed its name to Nintendo Playing Card Co. Ltd. in 1951. Nintendo still makes handcrafted playing cards in Japan, and even organizes its own contract bridge tournament, the "Nintendo Cup". "Nintendo" would be translated as "leave luck to heaven", or as "the temple of free hanafuda". Hiroshi Yamauchi, the grandson of Fusajiro Yamauchi, visited the U.S. in 1956 to talk with the United States Playing Card Company. Seeing that they had a small office, he realised the business has limited potential, which was a turning point for the company. Nintendo would buy the licence to acquire Disney characters that he would use on playing cards.

Besides the playing cards years, Nintendo's first venture into the video gaming industry was figuring out the rights to sell the Magnavox Odyssey console in Japan in 1974. One year later, in 1975, the company released its first video arcade game made in-house, EVR Race, designed by their first game designer, Genyo Takeda. After a few other tries, the release of Donkey Kong in 1981, designed by Miyamoto, changed Nintendo's luck dramatically. The success that the game had given Nintendo a huge boost in profit, introducing an early iteration of Mario with the occasion.

In 1983, Nintendo launched the Family Computer, more commonly known as the "Famicom", a home video game console that spread like wildfire in Japan, with ports of its most popular arcade games. This was the major breakthrough Nintendo came up with within the gaming industry, taking the arcades into the homes of millions. NES, a more cosmetically worked version of the Famicom, would launch in the United States in 1985. The move turned Super Mario Bros. into the best-selling video game in history.

Tips On Nintendo Gameplay

Nintendo fans will tell you that every game on every different console that the company released plays differently. And they would be right to some extent. Because in the end, Nintendo games are all about dexterity, visual spectrum and practice.

Dexterity - Regardless of what the game is all about, be it catching Pokemons in the wild or fighting obstacles on your way to Princess Peach, Nintendo games are all about dexterity. If you can’t master the buttons and different combos on your joystick, you are out of the game and frustrated quite fast. If you can put in the work and be confident about your skills, you will eventually master those keys and beat the challenge.

Visual spectrum - With so many different games and consoles to play them on, including hand-held devices, getting a sense of the visuals of a game is considerably important in order to beat it. Nintendo fans can switch between one platform and another fast, and can still beat the game regardless of the screen in front of them. How? By closely observing the visual characteristics of a certain game and then expanding their knowledge to all screens!

Practice - If nothing else works for you and your new Nintendo-found gaming, practice will make everything better. You will never be able to win the first castle level on Super Mario World on the SNES, but with practice, that goddamn gigantic ghost will eventually let you pass. Even if it takes the whole summer to do so! Keep practising and you will eventually get better and better. The smallest of progress is worth it in the long run!

So there you have it! This is your complete Nintendo gameplay and recommendations guide that you can enjoy right away. Besides the tailored recommendations when it comes to games, you now know more about the history of Nintendo than you probably should.
