Welcome to 2023 future gamers! This is the year of Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo 4 and a few others, maybe even a trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto! We can only hope for that last one. With 2022 being a year of revitalizing the industry, with games coming out all the time, you’d think 2023 will be a tad slower but you’d be really wrong. 2023 is going to be awesome!

After a calmer 2020 and 2021, the gaming developers are ready to come back for good during 2023. And the people are ready for it. It’s not like they’ve been all over the news in the previous two years, which means gamers are so ready for as many titles as they can get their hands on. It’s not just about the big ones, either. It’s about the little games, the silly ones, as well.

Gaming In 2023

Is gaming about to change in 2023? Are we going to see more AI, VR, and other capital letter integrations in the titles we are all awaiting? Is there any new console that’s about to come out? Or are we going to finally see the rupture between the PlayStation 4 and its bigger brother, the 5? One thing’s for sure: gaming will boom once more in 2023 and that’s all we need to know.

In 2023, the focus of gaming will shift towards mobile devices in part, as well as single campaigns which are making a strong comeback, but also towards online gaming, especially in new mediums such as virtual reality or physical activity-related titles. Yet there are some games that are simply too good to be categorized. Too long-awaited to classify. Too good to be true.

Ten Games Of 2023 We Cannot Wait For

Now that we’ve talked about the gaming scene of 2023 and what we can expect from it, let us all dive into the matter. What are the most awaited games of this new year going to be? What are the titles that are going to break records and set themselves apart from the neverending, always-expanding crowd? What are the 10 games you shouldn’t miss in the 12 months ahead?

Forspoken - Set to release on January 24th, on PC and PlayStation 5, Forspoken is a fresh IP from Luminous Productions and Square Enix. Is this a blockbuster ready to start the year for Luminous? Well, let us tell you some more about it! In this fantasy game, you will play the character Frey, a young woman from nowadays New York. Frey gets to travel to a magical fantasy realm, their words exactly, where she beings to gain incredible powers. People who have looked at the title so far say that the game is fluid and “beasty”, flashy attacks. The story is actually the one that shines the brightest. Forspoken has not been tried fully but in snippets until this hour, but the game feels original, inspired, and new. Video games come with the power to tell great stories, so Frey might just be the girl who will do that for you in the virtual world.

Hogwarts Legacy - The upcoming Wizarding World realm is a simulator that so many of us have been expecting for years now. While some fans would say that the game is about to reach us a few years too late, especially for the diehard fans of the franchise, there is no doubt that true fans of the magical world of Harry Potter will stick around for its release on February 10th. The game will come first on the PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series X/S and the Windows PC. Soon enough though, other platforms will come to terms with it and start making it available. Those very many who are still waiting to ride a hippogriff or explore Hogwarts on their terms, unlike they could with the original movie-related games, are undoubtedly going to play this game. Trailers of the game show the magic at large, with vast lands to go over, incredible features and creatures and character personalization, we cannot wait for this one to come into the store.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor - Coming to a virtual store near you, wherever you are, on March 17th, Survivor is actually a new game that comes as an extension but also a sequel to Fallen Order of the same Star Wars Jedi series. The game is set to come out on the PC, the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S devices. The adventure begins once more with the little Cal Kestis jedi, the main protagonist of the game. He will be the one following the main campaign of the original Star Wars story, as you will help Kestis attempt to survive in a galaxy that's now so toxic, it's been ridden hostile as Order 66 came to power. This evil order commands the extermination of all Jedi warriors, so you will have the hard task of protecting the realm from very bad people.

Dead Island 2 - We're finally going to witness the sequel to Dead Island this year, and we can only say awesome! Set to release on April 28th, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Windows PC, Dead Island 2 has come back from the dead, basically. The first trailer came out at Gamescom in 2022 when the producers confirmed when they will finally launch in 2023. This game has been in production for 10 years, even more, but now we are on its final stretch towards the mighty shelves. Or servers, in our case. This adventure game is going to be all about you beating dead zombies in the head, with everything you have at your disposal, on the streets of Los Angeles. Fight and breathe the blood of the undead, as you make them one with the dust with the many weapons at your disposal, like glass bottles, a katana, or the you-can-count-on-it shotgun.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Set to release on May 12, this next Legend of Zelda is a must for any fan of the series. It's been long overdue so, to have a release date that's confirmed on all fronts is a blessing. This is the sequel to Breath of the Wild, having Link coming back to Hyrule and having you explore the lands with many new puzzles, sky-is-the-limit gameplay, as well as much intrigue spread around the game. There's not much to be said about this one yet. The looks of it so far confirm this will be an action-packed title, with adventure and exploration as the main features. If you can't stop thinking and exploring the gorgeous scenery from Breath of the Wild, then you will be gifted even more of them with Tears of the Kingdom.

Street Fighter 6 - June 2nd is the release date for this fighter game no gamer on the planet hasn't heard about. It will come on both the PC and consoles on release day, with many new additions to the famous system of fights. Of course, there is a new art style that's much more flashy than the previous ones, more in the realms of another newer fighter game. Wink wink! Besides the system, there are new fighters to be tried out, but also other changes one will discover during gameplay. If your jam is arcade fighting games, or are interested to see where Street Fighter stands decades after its launch, the sixth main game of the series is then a must in 2023.

Diablo IV - Set for release on June 6th, Diablo IV is one of the most long-awaited games of the decade. To say people have been waiting for it, considering the last Diablo came out in 2012, would be the biggest understatement of the century. The game will come out on all your favourite suspects including the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. The game was announced officially three years ago. Since then, many trailers and gameplay samples have turned fans of the series upside down. There are new classes to be played, creepy villains, as well as many, many skeletons. We've written a post just about this game and you can read it on our blog.

Final Fantasy XVI - Coming right in the middle of the summer on June 22nd, XVI is the newest chapter of the Final Fantasy series we've all been waiting for. This is the latest main game of a long-running franchise, so long in fact, it feels like the gaming universe was born alongside it. "Mystery" is the keyword when people are talking about this title, even now, months before the release. The game will happen in a world that was created with Medieval Europe in mind. Armies will take action to keep the world peaceful, with some gems that they'll call Mothercrystals. When these crystals are messed up well, hell breaks loose! Grab the issues by the horns as the Archduke of Rosaria, and go on an adventure so magical and wild, you won't know which way is up. Eikons, the gods of the lore, will come into play and be very important for everything you do in the game. But yes, that is all we know so far about this title.

Starfield - We're not sure when this one comes out exactly but we know it should be the first half of the year. Starfield will come out on the Xbox as well as the PC, as Bethesda confirmed many times. Instead of letting it out at the end of 2022, developers decided to keep on working and have the game perfected until it's ready for good. This is also important because Starfield seems to be a huge game, so the smooth launch of the title is not an option but a must. With so much life out there in the universe, expect to start from nothing and reach for the stars in this exploring, adventure-ridden and goals-setting-inspired title.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora - We don't really know when this one comes out but we hope it's 2023. It's not like we're all curious about a new MMO but surely, one inspired by the fantasy world of Avatar must be something new and exciting, right? Well, we hope. The second Avatar movie was not the big hit it was supposed to be so in terms of games... who knows? Frontiers of Pandora is set to be an open-world adaptation of the iconic universe created by James Cameron. The game was announced more than 5 years ago, and Massive Entertainment is keen on releasing it soon, especially after producers announcing not one but four sequels to the main movie. In 2021 gamers got to see the first images of the game. The game is all about you creating your own Na'vi warrior, taking on a journey of your own making in the Western Frontier. If you're into the Avatar universe, you surely want to get this one!

The Later Future of Gaming

Gamers are now thinking more long-term than ever. They are careful about what they pick when they buy games, what they play and where they decided to involve emotionally. This is because they find it easier to stick to their guns rather than just go with the flow. In 2023, we’ve set the bar pretty high on gaming but what about 2024? What are some of the games we’ll see then?

We can only wait and see. And play the guessing game, of course. Maybe Grand Theft Auto will finally come out? How about the new Sims? And the many games in action now in dire need of an expansion pack? For now, though, we’re all set for the year ahead, and that’s the most important aspect of this article. The future holds many surprises and we’ll be here for them all.
